Oxford PV sets new solar cell world record

May 2023

We are very proud to hear our partner’s news, Oxford PV, concerning their achievement on power conversion efficiency of 28.6% for a two-terminal perovskite-silicon tandem cell measuring 258.15 cm² cell: A world record for a device based on a ‘full size’ silicon wafer.

The cell was made by depositing a thin film of the material perovskite onto a conventional silicon solar cell. The combined ‘perovskite-on-silicon’ tandem solar cell achieves a conversion efficiency that is substantially higher than that of mainstream silicon-only solar cells, which average 22–24%.

The record was certified by Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (Fraunhofer ISE).

This encourages, even more, our work in NEXUS.
